I must confess, I’ve just experienced Love at First Sight. Unfortunately it’s not with a person, but with Plataran Menteng restaurant. The new joint is ambitious in everything, including the grand two stories newly renovated old building, typical of Menteng Dutch houses. I couldn’t help but in awe of the place, it’s already looks big from the exterior, but the inside is like never ending dining space. To complement the traditional ethnicity, their real live birds chirping puts you in the good mood. It’s more like therapeutic if you ask me.
I like how the restaurant feels like five stars hotel and homey at the same time. While the first floor has only a few tables, the top level has many private rooms, each with different themes and capacities.
I can’t seem to get enough of the house tour, but then the rumble in my tummy starts to sing like those birds in the cages. So I started with Salad Putri Dewi (IDR 54.000): Guava and Jicama slaw, oven dried tomatoes serves with sweet and sour spicy dressing. I love this dish, it’s crunchy, fresh, tangy and so delicious.
Nasi Goreng Kemangi (IDR 79.000): Green basil fried rice with seafood. Fragrant, bold flavor, just right.
Cumi Bakar Tanjung (IDR 125.000): Squid, ocra, scallion, onion, toasted with glacy dark soya sauce. The squid was fresh, cooked nicely, and the flavorful sauce complimented the seafood.
Kerapu Menteng (IDR 490.000/7 Oz): Crunchy Grouper, mint leaves, basil, ginger flower, shallot, red onion, lemongrass with spicy Tamarind sauce and ground toasted rice. The fish was crunchy while the flesh was soft. The sauce was colorful in flavor.
Oseng-Oseng Pucuk Labu (IDR 49.000): Chayote shoots, cherry tomatoes, fermented soya bean, chili and oyster sauce. Crunchy greens with rich spicy sauce.
Nasi Daun Teleng (IDR 20.000): Blue rice with Butterfly Pea Flower (Kembang Telang) extract. Indonesian uses this flower for health reasons such as for diabetes and eye treatments. The blue colored rice is both enchanting and eye catching (no pun intended).😊
Pisang Bakar Plataran (IDR 52.000): Grilled banana with cheddar rosti. This is my least favorite dish. The cheddar bread was too salty and doesn’t work well with the banana. In my opinion of course.
Puding Batok Putih (IDR 95.000): Coconut pudding serve in the shell. The pudding was smooth like velvet and deep in flavor. Yum!
I know that Plataran company has been so successful with their hotel, resorts and restaurants. But they’ve seem to proven themselves yet again with Plataran Menteng. I would definitely recommended this restaurant for all Indonesian food lovers.
