Eight Treasures has an undoubtedly catchy classy name, perfect for the good luck and prosperity we all wish for this new year. This new most happening restaurant in Plaza Indonesia specializes in Chinese shabu-shabu style with different types of broth that’s supposedly good in taste and also for your health. While I don’t doubt the power of Chinese ancient herbal, I’m very picky flavor-wise. Let’s give it a try. First thing first, I’ll have to comment about the interior of-course. The restaurant is lavishly decorated, still keeping touch with its elegant oriental style. Love the colorful China princesses mural on the wall. It gave an extra photo spot for the narcissist 😊 plus it brought out the playful and youthful side to the the surroundings.
There are few choices of soup base that they offer: Cartilage soup, Herbal Chicken Soup, Szechuan “mala” spicy soup and Chicken/ African Coconut Soup. All serve individually on tiny hot soup pot.
Today I decided on their specialty: the Shark Cartilage soup (IDR 68.000). It’s a smooth and creamy broth which is brewed for 12 hours and packed with Collagen-a Protein famous for youth rejuvenation and both cancer and arthritis treatments. After tasting it, I’ve come to conclusion that this soup is both tasty and nourishing. The milky but light soup is a perfect companion for the beef and the delicious side dishes.
Prawn Paste in Lady Finger (IDR 58.000)
Fried Beancurd Skin (IDR 26.000)
Baby Chinese Spinach (IDR 18.000)
White Shimeji (IDR 38.000)
Fried Fish Maw (IDR 88.000/100gr)
US Prime Short Ribs (IDR 168.000/150gr): A must order from Eight Treasures, the hanging beef presentation is an eye catcher. The beef is great in quality and taste too.
At the end of the meal, you’ll get free refreshing Green Apple Smoothie. A nice lovely touch after the hot meal.
My first visit to Eight Treasures was memorable. I was skeptical at first but the food left me with great fulfillment for the mind and the body.
