Getting to Akar restaurant was rather confusing for the lack of proper sign and creepy elevator. Settled on the second floor on the top of Noble by Zab Thai, Akar was bright and cozy, with calming color scheme and nice natural lighting. Curved booth seats, indoor plants, and the decorative Plywood ceiling provided the somewhat intimate feeling to the place. Not bad for first impression.
I was expecting local authentic menu that they are offering, instead it was more of fusion Indonesian food and drinks. I think it’s smart and more interesting, but let’s have a try first before we say anything more.
Jambu Jeruk Bali Salad (IDR 70.000): A twist of Indonesian fruit salad consisted of Javanese guava, Balinese pomelo with orange citrus vinagraitte. Fresh sweet and tangy salad with peanut bits.
Rendang 48 (IDR 295.000): Alright, this first main dish has a great presentation. Doesn’t look like a traditional rendang dish to be exact but marvelous nonetheless. The US Shortribs were braised for 48 hours and it speaks to itself. It was super succulent, very tender and juicy, with the light rendang sauce and tatter tots. Just amazing!
Ikan Asam Pedas (IDR 105.000): Steamed Red Snapper with ginger flower and Galangal sauce. Pretty to look at, good tasty sauce with fresh fish fillet that’s too bland for my taste.
Genjer Belacan (IDR 70.000): Local edible riverine plant with Belacan sambal. Salty and Spicy worked well with the bit of bitterness from the veggies.
Kaya Mille Feuille (IDR 65.000): Mille Feuille of Kaya custard, chantilly cream, served with Kahlua ice cream. Thin crispy pastry with flavorful cream in the middle, the ice cream was super satisfying too, I just wish the portion was bigger.
Akar has a making of a potentially good eatery, with its brave and tasty menu. I personally quite fond with this new restaurant, and revisit again in the future.
