It’s not so often that I get to eat South American food in Jakarta, so finding Tucano’s was a breath of fresh air.For some of you who might not be familiar with Brazilian food, their food and culture is mostly influenced by European, African and Native American (Indian) cultures. Like many other countries, Brazil also has mixed of native and immigrant populations, hence the variants of their cuisine that we found here in Tucano’s.
This buffet style Brazilian restaurant has a big selection of all you can eat salad, appetizer and side dishes. Their laid back setting is perfect for big family gatherings. I would suggest you to try their Brazilian Stew consisted of chicken, Okra, sausage, Red bean and beef. It’s rich and bold in flavor. Although the rest of the buffet wasn’t that interesting, you can try the Chicken Croquette, Fried Polenta and their Brazilian Chicken Salad.
If you’re not interested in buffet, they do offer Ala carte dishes for weekday lunch.
The Churrasco Lunch buffet is IDR 248.000/person on the weekdays and IDR 348.000/person on Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. Dinner Buffet is IDR 348.000/person on the weekdays and IDR 398.000/person on Friday to Sunday (and Public holidays).
Tucano’s signature dish ‘Churrasco’ is actually came from the deep South of Brazil, Rio Grande do Sul to be exact, where the influence of their neighbor Argentina and Uruguay. While you get your own appetizer, the Churrasco is served on your table, and you can ask by putting out the light up discs on the table.
Here are some of the Churrasco I tried today:
Picanha: Sirloin steak grilled to perfection. The meat was tender but needed more seasonings for my taste.
Garlic Steak: The meat was juicy, bursting of garlic flavor.
Sausage: Good tasty beef sausage, with a deep flavor of smoked BBQ meat.
Chicken Leg: Juicy, tender, nicely seasoned.
Pineapple: Roasted pineapple with caramelized cinnamon coated. It’s sweet sour like a party in your mouth.
While the buffet food has nothing to write home about, the Churrasco definately saved the day. Whether you are a first timer to Brazilian food or not, Tucano’s is perfect for a delicious authentic Brazilian experience.
