New restaurant visit is like an everyday thing that never fail to excites me. Here I am at Vong Kitchen, the ultra hype and happening place in SCBD area, on the lobby of the soon to be Alila Hotel Jakarta, and I’m feeling good. A short biography of the chef, Jean-Georges, who was born in France and made a name of himself with Michelin stars and many other awards for his restaurants across the globe. His partner and son, Cedric is also a Zagat award winner and an established chef in his own right. In two top capable chef hands, Vong Kitchen set the expectation high. Good news that they’ve beginning to serve lunch recently too. But I’m here for the dinner experience, so let’s give it a go.
Cracker Tuna (IDR 180.000): Tuna wrapped in rice crackers served with Sriracha-Citrus and scallions emulsion. Lovely presentation, the tuna was moist, worked well with the sauce and crispy crust.
Black Truffle Pizza (IDR 180.000): Thin crust pizza with Black Truffle, Three cheeses and Sunny Side egg in the middle. I love the pizza crust, tasty toppings too.
Braised Beef Short Ribs (IDR 290.000): Very tender beef, but a little too fatty for my taste. The garlic mashed potatoes with pickled chilies and herbs was outstanding.
Sauteed Green Chili Corn (IDR 55.000): Side dish of sweet and spicy corn. Really really good.
Spaghetti Vongole (IDR 160.000): Al dente pasta with Lombok Venus Clams, Cherry tomatoes and parsley. The pasta was a little bland but the wine sauce was excellent.
Molten Chocolate Cake (IDR 110.000): Although it’s a very common cake that you can find anywhere, this one probably the best one I’ve tasted in town. The cake was so moist, with top quality chocolate. Nicely executed too.
Salted Caramel Sundae (IDR 120.000): Delicious over the top Salted Caramel ice cream with Caramelized Nuts, Popcorn and Hot Fudge. Super yummy!
Vong Kitchen food that I ordered today might tasted mediocre to me but the fantasticly executed. I can’t wait to revosit and taste the rest of what they offer.
