Another thing to look forward to when I’m in LA is the donuts. Every states in US has their own versions. LA in my opinion is the more health conscious yet adventurous of food. They love mixing and matching ingredients without the sacrificing the well-being and flavor. Donut Friend looks like ordinary donut joint, but don’t let the look deceive you. This place has the most interesting DIY donut station where you can choose your own toppings and fillings! What a fantastic idea! Other than that, Donut Friend offers many interesting flavors and most importantly Vegan friendly! I had a feeling, all of you carnivores out there is cringing by the word ‘Vegan donuts’. I myself was a non believer until I tried it myself.
Strawberry Lab ($4.00): This traditional donut got me hooked with whipped cream, fresh strawberries, topped with chocolate glaze. The most important thing is also that the donut was so airy, light and soft, I couldn’t get enough of it.
Mint Town ($3.50): Chocolate cake donut with mint cream, topped with chocolate glaze. To tell you the truth I wasn’t that fond of this one, mainly cause the texture that’s a little too dry and flakey to me. But again this is supposed to be a ‘cake donut’ and I applause their creativity. Loved the chocolate mint though.
Youth Brûlée ($3.50): Bavarian cream filled donut with brûlée sugar and orange zest toppings. It’s as good as it gets.
X-Ray Speculoos ($3.00): Cookie Butter inside a soft traditional donut, with chocolate glaze and sea salt.
Cinnamineral ($2.50): Cinnamon Chocolate crumble and vanilla glaze on a traditional donut.
I must say, if I didn’t do a research, I wouldn’t notice that these delicious donuts were Vegan. I love how they played with textures and flavors, fresh ingredients that you can really taste, and something that you’ll want to explore again and again in time.
