Our staycation started in the afternoon, when we arrived at the hotel to check-in at around 3 pm. The warm welcome gesture extended by the team from Grand Mercure was quite notable from the friendly staff at the reception, the refreshing welcome drinks, and a ‘wilujeng sumping’ plate of sweetness set up at the desk of our room with pool access.

The room that we stayed is called the Lagoon with pool access. It was quite roomy with a king size bed in the middle of the room.

As we aimed to experience an afternoon tea at the recently-opened KEPLER Sky lounge, we went straight there once we got all our stuff settled in the room. The sky lounge is on the 9th floor, which can be accessed through the elevator by the lobby.  I would say the lounge was moderately spacey with 4 differently-named sections, like Mars Terrace (the outdoor smoking area), Jupiter Deck (indoor area by the window with glass-ceiling above the seatings to enjoy the stars on a clear sky night), Venus, and Pluto private room for meetings or private function. The naming of the dining area was appropriate as the lounge was named after a famous German astronomer of the 17th century called Johannes Kepler. The whole area of Kepler can accommodate between 80-100 people at one time for a small function or gathering.

Besides snacks, selections of bite-size cakes, and fried condiments, we could also order coffee, tea or juices.  Time flew as we chit-chatted over the delightful afternoon tea session.

Since it was almost 5pm, we decided to continue with an early dinner.  For appetizer, we ordered the Bola Bola Pluto (IDR 50k) for sharing. As for the mains, we had Lamb Phobos Ratatouile (IDR 180k) and Saturnus Ayam Rempah (IDR 80k), which were both delightful. Finished with two lovely desserts, Panna Cotta Andromeda (IDR 50k) and Pisang Goreng Virgo (IDR 50k). Even though the Chicken did not look too appetizing, I started to dig in and found it to be one tasty dish.

One interesting drink we had was Morning Star, which was served inside a glass container on top of a bowl of dry ice to create a foggy effect.  The liquid itself was a blend of coffee and liquor.

After the dinner, we went back to our cozy and elegant room for an early sleep as we would like to wake up early the next day for a morning dip into the pool.  The pool was temperature-controlled to somewhat maintain the temp at 35 degrees celsius.

The next morning, I woke up and after a quick shower, I immediately dressed up for a swim.  Through the door at the back of my room, I just went out and took a dip into the cool pool. Felt so relax and refreshing.

The pool also has led lighting at the bottom that was turned on at night giving a cool and unique effect to the pool itself. Besides the pool, the hotel provides a gym for the guest to exercise during their stay.

After a morning swim like that, what more would you expect than a sumptuous buffet breakfast. The breakfast at this hotel is held at Hardy’s Dining Room at the far end of the lobby. Walking through the aisle with interesting metal artwork of musician playing traditional musical instruments, I got to the rather large dining hall that held quite a number of tables inside as well as the tables outdoor close to the pool.

The food and drinks offered at the buffet has plenty of selections from Asian,Western as well as traditional drinks like Jamu. I found the breakfast here to be pleasing and fulfilling.

The staycation at Grand Mercure help solidify my opinion of the standard that was held by Accor Group of hotels. This hotel definitely offers a great and luxury accommodation for the guests as well as excellent service that goes beyond regular standard.
