Vietnamese food is, in my opinion, one of the most exotic Asian cuisine, and it is also a rare find in Jakarta. My friend told me about this new place near Epicentrum Kuningan, where they serve authentic-good Vietnamese food and I was eager to go there. Yeu Saigon Cafe combines a sleek, fun, and modern feel to the interior. This bright restaurant also has jaunty manner with decorated walls and cute Vietnamese centerpieces. To say that their collection of authentic dishes plentiful-is an understatement. I took my time to choose between their two new and classic menu. Thankfully, the servers were helpful and informative.
Goi Cu Hu Dua (IDR 120.000): Coconut blade salad . The shrimps were fresh and crunchy, love the tangy dressing, and I couldn’t get enough of the coconut blade. It’s fantastic. And the sesame crackers were delightful.
Goi Xoai (IDR 120.000): This green mango salad was refreshing, has a sharp fruity sour taste, and the succulent beef balanced the flavor.
Cha Gio Chay (IDR 120.000): Deep fried Vietnamese Vegetarian spring roll, served with vermicelli and fresh herbs. Light crunchy wrap, delicious filling too.
Dau Hu Sot Trung Muoi (IDR 85.000): Fried tofu with salted egg. Similar to a Chinese dish, the tofu was velvety and the salted egg coating was perfect.
Lau Hai San Chua Cay (IDR 180.000): Vietnamese seafood hot pot soup, served with rice noodle. Although all the ingredients were in good quality, I was expecting more flavor from this soup. The flavor was mostly just sweet, a little too plain for my liking but it could be just me.
Cha Ca La Vong (IDR 140.000): Fish fillet cooked in turmeric, dill, shrimp paste and fish sauce. Fragrant, full of spices, delicious fish fillet.
Ga Boc Xoin Chien (IDR 300.000): Hanoi Hilton Chicken with deep fried Kampung Chicken wrapped in crispy sticky rice. This probably the most interesting dish I’ve had in a long time. The presentation itself was worth taking pics and video for. The whole chicken wrapped with fried sticky rice is enough to feed a whole household. Although the roasted chicken tasted just average, and the sticky rice was too much to consume on the same time, it’s a whole new experience for an amateur foodie like me.😊
Flan Cake (IDR 30.000): Caramel dessert similar to a creme brûlée.
Flan Gateau (IDR 36.000): A delicious cake with layers of cake and caramel coated flan and coffee sauce. Frothy and satisfied my sweet tooth.
Coconut Ice Cream (IDR 60.000): Deep coconut flavored ice cream.
Che Ba Ba (IDR 30.000): Authentic Vietnamese dessert consisted of coconut milk soup, square pieces of cassava, taro and sweet potato. Love it.
