I love exploring new restaurants, especially the ones under the wings of familiar companies such as Union group. The Dutch’s concept is Gastropub with Germany/European cuisine, so you’ll expect to find many pork menu here along with many brands of beers. But there are also halal menu available like seafood and even Indonesian dish. The place is dim-litted with all smoking area except for the kitchen bar seats, but you don’t need to worry coz they have an excellent exhaust system here, so you can barely smell the cigarettes. The place is pretty casual looking, with available private room to accommodate up to 10 people.

These are some of the recommended menu that I had today:
Octopus and Prawn Salad (IDR 95.000): Fennel, Artichoke, Quinoa, Beetroot, Citrus dressing. The portion is very small, not for sharing in my opinion. But flavor-wise, it’s decent, the shrimp was grilled nicely and seasoned well. The octopus came in tiny pieces, I almost missed it.

Chicken Wings (IDR 90.000): Crispy chicken wings, Roast chicken sausage with BBQ sauce and Sambal Matah. Nothing special about the fried chicken wings, the sausage however, was juicy and burst with flavor. Love it.

Kurobuta Pork Collar (IDR 225.000): Kale, crispy Polenta, pickled Shitake, Taggiasche olive vinaigrette. I was a little disappointed by this dish, the meat was tough, almost rubbery, and plain salty.

Speculaas Toast (IDR 65.000): Cinnamon ice cream, crumble, ‘Boerenjongens’-Dutch Rum Raisins, grilled apple, candied orange. Plain toast with crunchy Speculaas cookie crumbs, raisins and Cinnamon ice cream. The toppings was good, but I guess I was expecting much more than ordinary toast.

Burnt Pavlova (IDR 55.000): Passion fruit curd, fresh Passion fruit, sweet Almond basil Gremolata (Italian chopped herb condiment). Looks boring but surprisingly nice. The Pavlova was airy and crunchy, worked well with the sour Passion fruit jam on top.

I couldn’t really say much from my first visit to The Dutch. I could’ve chosen the wrong main course for my taste bud, hopefully my next visit will be better.
