Sofia at the Gunawarman has been creating buzz since it’s opening not long ago. It might be kind of tricky to spot the boutique hotel, there’s no visible sign to pin point you to the right place, but the grand European exterior is hard to miss. I immediately fell in love with the grandeur interior too: antique, elegant, sophisticated and had a bit ‘Harry Potter’-esque feel. If you think this hotel restaurant is a buffet, you’re mistaken. The food is a la carte and has international selection, as well as local cuisine. They also have ready patisseries and cakes available to purchase to go or for eating in.
Let’s try their recommended dishes:

Albondigas (IDR 115.000): Pan fried homemade meatballs, marinara, Ricotta. This Spanish meatballs sadly was a little tough and dry for my liking. The tomato sauce was good though.

Squid Ink Tagliatelle (IDR 145.000): Pan fried scallop, fennel, Thermidore sauce. The creamy sauce was good and flavorful, too bad the pasta was a bit overcooked.

Coppa Di Parma and Rucola (IDR 140.000): Mozzarella and Shaved black truffle pizza. Eight slices of tiny pizza, with delicious cheese, just alright dough and tough to chew Parma Ham. They could’ve done better.

Apple Crumble Muille Fuille (IDR 75.000): Puff pastry, salted butterscotch, Vanilla ice cream, sea salt. Love this dessert. It’s light, fresh crunchy apple bits, and love the caramel cracker that came with it.

Sofia Chocolate Cake (IDR 85.000): Eight texture chocolate, hot chocolate sauce. Mostly mousse, this cake was too sweet for me, but the chocolate quality was good.
So does Sofia has what it takes to win my vote? Too bad it wasn’t as good as I’ve expected. But there’s always the thirst for new and exciting places for foodies in Jakarta, so why don’t you go and experience it yourself?
