Izakaya Kai is the newest restaurant by Chef Adhika Maxi and Karen Carlotta, the same chef and pastry chef – owners of AMKC Atelier. They also collaborated with Chef Hitoshi Kimura, a Japanese chef, with this establishment. This two stories restaurant has different menu on each level. The lobby floor is for the Western/Italian and pastries, and the top floor for the Japanese cuisine. Unfortunately, you can’t order the downstairs’ menu if you’re seated in the Japanese eatery, so I guess we’ll settle this one for today. While the downstairs interior looks so much like AMKC Atelier, the top floor has a more Asian touch, from the booth seats to the bar seats.

Corn Baby Spinach Truffle Goma Salad (IDR 45.000): Green crisp fresh veggies, very simple but tangy delicious dressing.

Tsukane Yakitori (IDR 15.000): One piece of Japanese chicken meatball skewer. The skewer has a weird texture, like too much starch. Wasn’t my favorite.

Butakakuni (IDR 60.000): Braised pork belly, the pork was moist but the sauce was a little too sweet.

Saikoro Steak (IDR 125.000): Small pieces of Black Angus steak l, grilled to perfection and served with succulent sauce and salad.

Tendon (IDR120.000): Tempura Donburi with fish, vegetable and shrimp tempura. I love the crispiness of the tempura batter. The tangy sauce also worked well with the dish.

Ebishinjo Tempura (IDR 50.000): This shrimp tempura is full of tasty filling, crispy and delicious.

Bacon Asparagus Yakitori (IDR 40.000): Two pieces of Asparagus wrapped with salty fragrant bacon. Yummy skewers.
Bacon Enoki Yakitori (IDR 40.000): Two pieces of Enoki mushroom wrapped with bacon.
If you’re wondering if I tasted their famous cakes, I wouldn’t miss it for the world:

Red Velvet Choco (IDR 60.000): Gorgeous looking and tasting red velvet cake with chocolate cream. The combination of the rum and deep chocolate was incredible. Another Karen Carlotta ‘s gem!

Goma Cake (IDR 55.000): Izakaya Kai’s signature Sesame cake. Simple, air fluffy cake with flavorful cream cheese. Love it!

Sagu Keju Cheese Cake (IDR 55.000): Green Pandan like Sago flour cake, light spongey cake and cheese cream.

Mochi Yogurt Cake (IDR 50.000): Pink cute cake with sweet and sour yogurt custard and mochi pieces. A little strange but interesting cake.
Izakaya Kai’s final verdict: Just alright for the Japanese cuisine, but Will definitely come back for their Western Italian cuisine and the super fantastic range of dessert!
