One Sunday, I took my family to this Korean BBQ restaurant, Dae Gam Jib. This place is quite secluded from the main street, but settled in the corner of Jl. Wijaya 9, so it’s easy to spot. There’s nothing much to say about the interior, it’s very simple and plain, with dining tables without the barbecue grill and no exhaust fan. So the servers cook the food for you. I didn’t mind much about it (as long as the food is good) and so were the Korean customers who’re there obviously. The menu here is authentic Korean, lots of pork menu if you’re curious, and they even have the famous Korean Ginseng Chicken Soup which I rarely found around here. The service was polite, knowledgeable and prompt.
One of the most thing that I look forward to in a Korean restaurant is the Banchan/side dishes. They gave out 7 kinds of small portions and they were all delicious: Kimchi, Salted toasted seaweed, Cucumber pickles, Fried tofu, Peanuts with salted fish, Potato and carrots, Ramp pancakes.
And here are the food that we ordered:
Jap Chae (IDR 140.000): Stir fried glass noodles, small portion although it’s really tasty with light slurpy glass noodles.
Yang Yeom Gal Bi (IDR 270.000): Thinly sliced, marinated beef ribs. The meat was fresh, have a touch of sweet honey flavor. It’s delicious.
Seng Gal Bi (IDR 270.000): This one is the same as the previous, but with more salty flavor.
Hemul Sundubu (IDR 85.000): Seafood spicy tofu soup. I love their bold salty, fragrant soup. Unfortunately Not spicy enough for our tastebuds. Generous amount of tofu and some seafood like squid.
Dol Sot Bibimbab (IDR 100.000): Rice served in hot stone bowl, consisted of flavorful vegetables and fried egg on the top, with separated sesame oil and Korean chili paste, plus Soybean sprout soup on the side. A fulfilling and healthy meal with simple taste.
My experience at Dae Gam Jib was good. They gave reasonable beef portion and I love their tasty tofu soup. I might be coming back for the taste of their pork dishes soon.
