As the weekend approached, I fell like eating Tex-Mex food, so I opted for this new eatery in Rukan Permata Senayan area. Judging by the menu, Casa Mexico offers authentic home cooked-style Mexican food and drinks, with a bar and comfy- two floor dining area. The small area is saved by colorful eye catching painted walls and decoration, in lieu of the Mexican theme. Like any sweet tooth eaters would do, I immediately checked on their dessert menu, and was disappointed to see the very limited menu (in fact there’s only one dessert available that day). Oh well…let’s deal with that later and try on their food first.
Welcoming Nachos (Free): Crunchy thin almost perfect tortilla chips plus the home made spicy salsa that’s bold, spicy and basically to die for. Nice start.
Quesadilla Plain Cheese (IDR 55.000): The quesadilla skin was thin and tasted fresh. The cheese was generous in amount and flavor. Served with guacamole and salsa. Love it.
Chicken Fajitas (IDR 89.000): Sauteed chicken breast with tomato, peppers, onions, served with beans, rice and tortillas. The tortilla skin was a little too thick for me, the chicken was well cooked and marinated, tasty baked beans with cheese topping. The rice is also worth the mention because it has a strong flavor, not like typical Mexican rice dish but more like Indonesian rice although I kinda like it. The guacamole was too watery, wasn’t my favorite, overall it was just okay dish.
Carne Asada Tenderloin (IDR 250.000): Grilled steak served with beans, salad, guacamole, grilled pepper and tortillas. The Tenderloin steak was tough to chew, tasted alright. The side dishes were similar to the previous menu except for the extra Pico de Gallo.
Dessert of the Day (IDR 40.000): Kahlua pudding that look and tasted mediocre. A little too eggy smell for my liking, not enough Kahlua.
At the beginning Casa Mexico gave a great impression, but the main courses didn’t give such a memorable experience to me. But of course as a new comer in the restaurant business, means more room for improvements (I hope).
