My favorite dimsum restaurant in Singapore finally opens in Jakarta. Tim Ho Wan, having its first outlet in Hongkong, has made its global expansion to neighbouring countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Phillipines, and lastly Indonesia.  As I learnt from the news, the Jakarta launch coincides with the Sydney launch.  Impressive expansion huh. Opening this late March for public and celebrating its grand opening on the 18th of April, Tim Ho Wan has served many dim sum lovers from all over the city. Tim Ho Wan is the only dim sum restaurant with Michelin Star on its belt with Chef Mak Kwai Pui, the artisan chef behind it.

At the time of my visit, they have not opened the other floors for service. You could only get in line for a seat on the first floor and the queue line was quite long. No worries though, since the queue was moving forward quite fast and it took me about 25 minutes to get a seat there.

I quickly ordered a few dim sum selections as listed below.

Bakpao isi Babi BBQ / Baked Bun with BBQ Pork (IDR 38,800) – It was as good as when I first tasted it in Plaza Singapura Singapore. The bun, that can only be found in this dim sum chain, was crispy with to die for bbq pork inside. The creation of this dish is a chef achievement by itself.

Cheong Fun Isi Saus Wijen Manis / Vermicelli Roll with Sweet and Sesame Sauce (IDR 28,800) – The sweet and sesame sauce was giving this vermicelli roll its soul. This soft roll combined with great flavour from the sauce was truly satisfying.

Siomay Babi Isi Udang / Pork Dumpling with Shrimp (IDR 36,800) – As a siumay lover, I ordered this particular dish whenever I have the chance. This one was not an exception and it did not fail me. Tender and Juicy was the right words to describe it.

Tim Perut Ikan Perasa Udang / Steamed Fish Maw with Prawn Paste (IDR 36,800) – The fish was fresh and tender.

Pangsit Goreng Udang dengan Saus Wasabi / Wasabi Salad Prawn Dumpling (IDR 43,800) – Crispy skin of the fried dumpling and good combination of taste from the wasabi sauce. No complain here as well.

Tim Ho Wan has just made it to the top of my Indonesia’s dim sum restaurant right that instant. I would visit this place time and time again whenever I have the chance. And I would implore you to try it so you could begin to imagine what I experience.
