Out of the abundant piles of Jakarta’s new restaurants, I came across The Hook. I must admit, the name catches your attention. The eatery located in the corner of Suryo and Cikatomas street, right across Blok S football field. It’s actually a fun name with dual interpretation of ‘hoek’ or corner spot in Dutch/ fishing hook in English. This restaurant specialty is grouper fish menus, so their main star is seafood and it’s family. The interior here is fun and keeping up with the topic. Details are crucial in a themed restaurant, the same goes to this one, you can see all the cute knick knacks they have here.
Beside booth and table seats, there are also a spacey private room available that can fit max 30 people/ can be divided into two separate rooms. The minimum charge here is IDR 3.000.000/room.
Let’s start with the food, first I ordered their Seafood Nachos (IDR 125.000): Nachos topped with seafood, tomato puree, jalapeño and cheese sauce. I was skeptical about nachos and seafood combination, but this one kind of works. The shrimp pieces were limited but the nachos were light and crunchy. Pretty good.
Rosemary Grouper Steak (IDR 255.000): Breaded Grouper fillet with Rosemary and Parmesan cheese served with cream sauce, fries and salad. I can taste the freshness of the fish fillet. The bread crumbs were crunchy, flavorful and fragrant. Love it.
Prawn Fettuccine Alfredo (IDR 85.000): Fettuccine Alfredo with Cajun prawn. The pasta was dry, bland although the prawn was deliciously seasoned.
If I may say, the Hook left a good impression on the grouper dish, but not so well on the pasta. Maybe you should stick with their fish menu if you decided to give this eatery a try.
