Where do you find good Thai food with great price in Jakarta? I’ve searched near and far (’till sounding like Celine Dion’s Titanic theme song) and finally came across this restaurant in Pantai Indah Kapuk area called Thai Jim Jum. It’s located in a Ruko/Shop-house next to Dapur Coklat. The place looks humble, clean with bright lights, and was very busy on that Saturday night. I’ve learned that this eatery was actually originated from Pasar Muara Karang and recently moved to this new place. The menu looks pretty authentic and has many varieties. The service here is fast and helpful too. For me, the downside of their overall delicious bold taste on the food, was the excessive use of MSG which left the after taste – immoderate amount of thirst- afterwards. But I guess that’s normal for a Chinese based restaurant in Jakarta, and I wasn’t too bothered about this.
Tom Yam Goong (IDR 50.000): Thai spicy and sour soup with shrimps. The flavor was okay but wasn’t bold enough for my taste. The seafood was fresh and plenty.
Gai Hoh Bai Toey (IDR 25.000): Chicken in Pandan leaves. The chicken was tender, flavorful and marinated well.
Pla Kao Lad Prik (IDR 70.000): Deep-fried whole red snapper topped with red curry, peppers basil. The fish was fresh, love the strong spicy red curry taste too.
Moo Dad Diaw (IDR 35.000): Fried sun dried sweet and salty pork, topped with fired kaffir lime leaves. It’s succulent, deep in flavor and really tasty.
Si Krong Mio Tod Kratiam (IDR 45.000): Thai spare ribs with garlic. The meat was tender and deliciously seasoned.
Mun Sam Pa Lang Chuam (IDR 15.000): Thailand signature dessert, cassava poached in sugar syrup and served with salty coconut sauce. Sweet, savory and all good.
