When I heard that Hurricane’s Grill has just opened in Jakarta, I was beyond ecstatic! Honestly, I’m probably the only foodie in the world who haven’t tasted Hurricane’s Grill…Ever! But this could be my advantage so I can write without Nothing to compare with. Being a ‘virgin’ of Hurricane’s Grill experience, I did my homework and learn a little about this Australian based restaurant. Founded in 1995, this eatery has since became ‘house hold’ name for it’s legendary steaks and BBQ dishes. Besides the Oz branches, Jakarta is it’s first outlet in Asia, so that’s something to be grateful about.
The restaurant is quite big with two levels (the second level soon to be functional). The first floor consisted of bar, dining and terrace area. The modern rustic interior is very comfy and the fake vertical gardens are a sight for sore eyes.
The menu here is a reflection of Down Under’s favorite dishes with the addition of some alternative International dishes such as Portuguese, British’ favorites such as Fish and Chips, and many more.
I started with the Garlic Roll (IDR 48.000): Delicious fresh baked garlic bread that’s fluffy and full of flavor.
Salt and Pepper Calamari (IDR 88.000): The squid was fresh, chew able textured, nicely seasoned and has a delicious salty peppery flavor. One of the best Calamari I’ve ever tasted.
Mixed Salad (IDR 118.000): Crisp Iceberg lettuce, tomato, cucumber, red onion with vinaigrette dressing. Just a regular mixed green with outstanding quality and tangy dressing.
Garlic Prawns (IDR 148.000): Cooked with garlic butter, olive oil and fresh garlic. The shrimps were tough and overcooked. It’s a shame cause the butter sauce was good.
Mussels (IDR 148.000): Cooked in creamy garlic sauce served with bread fingers for dipping. Looked and tasted a lot like Clam Chowder. Very rich, creamy, needed a pinch more of salt for my taste. The mussels are the top quality.
Signature Pork Ribs (IDR 548.000/Full Racks): Big portion of their juiciest pork ribs. The barbecue sauce was sweet with a little acidity to it, very fragrant and finger licking good. The meat was tender and juicy, the only thing that I was asking for was extra sauce!
Chocolate Fudge Cake (IDR 68.000): Similar to the chocolate lava cake. Just an ordinary cake and nothing excites me.
Caramel Mars Bar Cheesecake (IDR 98.000): Cheesecake with American Nougat-Caramel-Chocolate bar…the result was amazing! It’s like a party in my mouth!
Pistachio Berries Cake (IDR 68.000): Light Pistachio cake with berries jam and chocolate layers with Vanilla ice cream on top. I love it!
Like many of you, I’ve fallen in love with Hurricane’s Grill on the first taste. Although it wasn’t all perfect, it’s a delicious experience that would haunt me for more and more revisits in the future. In short, Hurricane’s has Blown me away!
