Holy Smokes is another restaurant concept from Ersons Group, the people behind The Holy Crab. Although both are inspired by somewhat American style dining, this one boasted a quite different twist. While The Holy Crab was based on Louisiana Seafood, Holy Smokes was inspired by Texas slow-cooked BBQ. And as its slogan said and it was entirely true, it is the first and only slow-smoked bbq joint in town.
With modern building design and somewhat industrial-inspired interior, Holy Smokes provides a cozy and sophisticated dining place, casual enough for youngster, while also acceptable for families. Some of the things here scream fast food, like the nestea and softdrinks dispensers for the free-refilled drinks. It’s an unusual concept designed to attract younger cafe visitors.
After you order, you got yourself a pager that will beep and vibrate when the order is ready.
All the meat dishes provided here are processed using slow-smoked bbq technique that require the meat to be stored in the smoking container for some periods of time. The brisket was undergoing 14 hours of low and slow smoking time before being served to the guests. The beef ribs have to go through a 4 to 6 hours smoking process, resulted in black burnt look on the outer side of the ribs.
I was told that the slow burning and smoking process is using smokes from real lumber of woods, that gives us a country style burning smell on the BBQ meat.
Smoky Beef Brisket 2 slices (160gr) Dinner with sides of corn and mac and cheese (IDR 118K) – The brisket was tender. I liked the combination of the brisket with their bbq sauce. Corn and mac and cheese were also giving a nice complement to the main dish.
Southern Style Beef Ribs 2 bones Dinner with sides of coleslaw and potato salad (IDR 185K) – These 2 bones Beef Ribs were the champion though. It was juicy with the smoke smell on every bites. Coleslaw was decent. Loved the potato salad.
Looking on their menu, I still have a few other promising menus to try like the Texas Short Ribs and BBQ Chicken. That’s why I would surely come back again to try them. Based on my first visit, I would recommend you to get a combo. Any combo will do, as it will give you more value since you can try different meats at reasonable price.
