With so many new Japanese restaurants in Jakarta, it’s hard to find what makes one particular eatery stands out among the rest. Fukuro might look small from the outside, but the inside is quite spacey and colorful. What makes it different is that this is a modern youthful themed restaurant with authentic Japanese dishes. Just as you enter the place, a giant pink owl statue welcomes you. The look of typical Japanese restaurant interior is debunked with colorful decorations and modern ceiling lights. It’s a type of place you can chill out without being too serious. The ala carte menu is actually quite expensive, but for lunch, they have set menus with fair price (all including hot Japanese tea, salad and Matcha Ice cream). The availability of Private Omakase (Japanese private dining where the menu are decided and prepared by the chef) for IDR 1.500.000/pax is also a plus to this place, it’s like there are almost everything, in every budget, for every Japanese food lovers.
Salmon Lunch Set (IDR 120.000): Salmon rice with assorted Japanese appetizer with Salmon Roe topping. The salmon is fresh and can be prepared as you would like it (sashimi/cooked), love the drlicious mini and colorful side dishes that accompany it.
Wagyu Sukiyaki (IDR 250.000): Australian Wagyu 120gr. With assorted vegetable and a bowl of rice. Delicious generous size Sukiyaki in a mini cooking pot. I luke the strong sweet and savory sukiyaki soup, the beef is very tender too.
Sushi Set (IDR 150.000): 3 Nigiri, 3 Maki Roll, 1 Inari, Wagyu teriyaki, Mini Chawan Mushi, Wagyu Croquette and Sesame spinach.
The only bad thing I can say about the set menu was the Matcha icecream. It’s tasted like refrozen icecream where the texture has gotten really bad.
