I visited this Italian restaurant during my staycation at Shangri-La Hotel and turned out they have a brunch package every Saturday called Festa in Famiglia at its Italian Restaurant called Rosso. Its interior was contemporary elegant, with adornments of red color dominance on chairs and booth, since Rosso means red in Italian.
This family friendly Italian brunch offers a wide variety of antipasti buffet selection, several main courses that include pizzas and pastas, and also dessert selections. I also saw that there was a table, dedicated for cupcake decorating so that kids can have activities during brunch to keep them entertained. How thoughtful.
The buffet itself was called Festa in Famiglia (adults IDR 290K, children IDR 120K) – Antipasti buffet, selected main course and dessert, chilled juices, coffee or tea
For the antipasti buffet, they offered selections of cheese, parma ham, grilled capsicum, zucchini and polenta, baby squid and green tea, nicoise salad, shrimp salad, chicken caesar salad, duck breast and Sicilian salad, roasted beef salad, salami milano, salami piccante, salami spianata.
I only took a few from each plate, since there were other dishes that I would like to try later on. Liked everything on my plate. Everything was cooked properly and fresh. A good starter for an Italian buffet.
Pizza of the day – Pizza selection Margherita / Seafood / Bresaola. For pizza, one that I tried was Pizza Seafood. It was tasty and fresh.
Pizza of the day – Pizza selection Margherita / Seafood / Bresaola. This other pizza was also good with more on the salty side. But if you take it in one whole bite, the combination of taste worked well together.
If you love Italian food, I am certain that you have a soft spot for pasta like me. On this buffet occasion, I got a chance to try these three great pasta selections.
Tagliatelle Homemade with Artichoke and Scallops – among the trio pasta, I liked this tagliatelle one the most. The pasta itself was cooked just right with perfect firmness and texture. The taste from the scallops and other ingredients worked like magic. It was al dente.
Risotto Saffron with lamb ragout and cheese fondue – I always liked this Italian version of rice dish. The risotto that I have encountered in the past was a bit bland for my taste. This one, however, was rich in taste and thickness, probably from the use of cheese fondue in the sauce mix. It tasted good and it blended nice with the lamb ragout served on top of it.
Penne with tomato sauce and mozzarella cream – Tomato sauce and mozarella cream has been the most commonly used sauce for pasta. Served both on this penne pasta, it gave a refreshing taste while also maintained richness through its creaminess.
Profiterole with chocolate mousse – The texture was crispy on the outside with softness of light sweetness of chocolate mousse on the inside.
Apple strudel with lemon pastry sauce – This one was a bit sour but the overall taste was good.
Cappuccino – Coffee mousse with whipped cream and almond crumble – Another good dessert. A hint of bitterness from the coffee and crunchy texture made it a good overall combination.
Millefoglie – Chocolate and raspberry millefoile — This light and fresh combination worked well for the dessert. Liked it.
All the desserts had a great sweetness balance. To me, that is the key character of a good dessert.
