I was strolling around Sunter area and was in the mood for Western food ,and the first thing that we think of was Carnivor. I love bright restaurants with large windows for natural sunlight which means good photos results. This restaurant fits the profile, no wonder it’s use a lot by Jakarta’s photographers. The design itself is thick with American feeling-brick exposed, wooden furniture, indoor artificial plants, makes you feel like you’re having an outdoor barbecue party. This is one of the four branches of Carnivor Barbeque restaurants, owned and managed by Chef Ridwan J. Kumala. At my first visit, I have a great feeling about this place, right from this start. Hopefully my gut doesn’t disappoint me this time.
The food here has many varieties, mostly typical of Jakarta’s favorite menus, but tailored to the taste of strong Indonesian taste buds. Here are some that I’ve ordered:
Crispy Thai Salad (IDR 65.000): Mix salad, crispy wonton, green apple slice, edamame, grilled chicken dice, and lime cilantro peanut dressing. The greens were fresh and crisp. I like the light salty dressing although it tasted more Japanese than Thai. The delicious seasoned chicken and edamame topping completes the nice dish.
Salmon (IDR 98.000): The Salmon fillet was bland but good when eaten with the sweet and tangy Carnivor’s BBQ sauce. The coleslaw was creamy and crunchy.
Spicy Pork Belly Pasta (IDR 48.000): Pasta braised with spicy homemade sauce, sliced pork belly, onion, capsicum and green onion. Asian themed spaghetti with strong salty flavor, it might sound weird but surprisingly works with the pieces of pork belly. Delicious.
Overall I was satisfied with Carnivor’s food and more content of the fact that their price range is not over-costly. Definitely a great place to bring the whole family to dine and unwind.
