Union group never cease to amaze me. With the brand new opening of Caffe Milano in Grand Indonesia, the restaurant empire seems to grow even stronger. The location in GI is inside the Central Dept. Store, as the same level as Union Deli. Caffe Milano has -expectedly- the same vibe as Union cafe, old American glamour mix with rustique classic look. With the similar furniture such as the half circular booth seats and open outdoor area, it feels like I was seating inside Union cafe. The yellow canopy outside was a nice touch to the place, but a terrible idea for photography inside the restaurant. So please bear with me with my all yellow-hued pics below. Aside from that, there are quite a difference on the menu. I’ve noticed that they have mainly Italian menu here, instead of international and Western menu. I like it all the same. FYI the executive chef of Caffe Milano is Chef Luca Pezzera, a veteran chef who used to be in charge at Scuza (Intercontinental Jakarta Midplaza hotel) for over 20 years. So we know that this restaurant is certainly in good hands.
Tomato and Arugula Salad (IDR 85.000): Rocket salad with Hazelnuts, Parmigiano Reggiano and Balsamico dressing. Very simple healthy salad with plenty of fresh greens. Might be a little plain for those of you who love creamy salad.
Fritto Misto All’Italiana (IDR 90.000): Fried calamari, tiger prawns, anchovies and Daily market fish. Nice comfort food served with marinara sauce on the side. I just wish there’s tartar sauce around.
Homemade Angel Hair with Black Truffles (IDR 175.000): Angel hair pasta with light butter sauce and generous shredded Black Truffles. Love the bold seasoning.
Homemade Tagliatelle (IDR 125.000): Tasty Tagliatelle pasta with Porcini mushrooms and tiger prawns. The pasta was overcooked, although it has a nice bold flavor. Very in touch with Indonesian style, flavor-wise.
Pizza Diabola (IDR 125.000): Spicy Soppressata Ham, chilli flakes and Mozzarella. I was surprised to see the small pizza size (4 slices only), it’s more like a personal pan pizza. The taste was (again) very bold. They should’ve take it easy on the seasoning of the tomato sauce cause the ham was already salty to begin with.
