Spotted..A hidden gem in Kyai Maja St.; inside the brand new Maja building to be precise; is the gorgeous, authentic Indonesian restaurant as beautiful as it’s name: Blue Jasmine. I fell in love with this place at the first glance. The interior is an ellegant clean looking, all white and blue China pattern themed, from the throw pillows, the placemats to the dishes. The outdoor area didn’t dissapoint too, bright spacey place with vertical garden and cute flowing little water fountain. The overall taste of the food is quite good and well presented too. This place covered authentic Indonesian as well as Peranakan cuisine with a reasonable price (for South Jakarta’s fine dining experience, at least).
Popiah (IDR 55.000): Spring rolls with crunchy Jicama, bean sprouts, chopped peanuts and shrimps. The filling was delicious but the Popiah skin was a little too thick for my taste.
Gado Gado Rujak Pengantin (IDR 45.000): Vegetable salad in Rujak Pengantin dressing. Cold veggies salad with boiled egg, fried tofu and spicy peanut dressing. I like the sweet tangy dressing on fresh crisp lettuce.
Tahu Telur (IDR 55.000): Egg and tofu omelette with sweet soy bean dressing and fresh beansprout. The tofu was too little for my liking, otherwise it was crispy, fried to perfection and the sauce was heavenly.
Udang Telur Asin (IDR 95.000): Deep fried prawns with rich savory salted eggs. Crispy delicious salty eggs coating complimented the juicy prawns.
Dendeng Balado Madam Lao (IDR 90.000): Tenderloin beef in spicy red Balado chili. I’ve always love spicy food and this one had the right elements to it. Juicy tender beef, spicy with a bit of sweetness of the red Balado sauce added ‘the kick’ that I needed.
Ayam Goreng Belacan (IDR 70.000): Belacan fried chicken. Chicken marinated in fermented shrimp paste/Belacan and deep fried to perfection. The chicken was a bit overcooked for me but still tasted nice.
Nasi Campur Medan (IDR 70.000): Jasmine rice with Beef Rendang/Indonesian beef curry, Chicken Satay, Tahu Tauco/ tofu in fermented yellow soybean sauce and Kering Kentang/sweetened potato chips.
Tumis Touge Ikan Teri (IDR 50.000): Fresh bean sprout with salted fish.A simple yet savory dish to try. Nice to be eaten with steamed rice.
Sarang Semut with Durian Ice Cream and Earl Grey Sauce (IDR 65.000): Indonesian caramel sponge cake that resembles Sticky Toffee Pudding. The name Sarang Semut actually means “ant-hill” in Bahasa because of the appearance. I love the nice texture of it and the creamy sauce that comes with it. The Durian ice cream has a very strong taste and tasted homemade. Will definitely come back for more.
Pandan Velvet Cake (IDR 50.000): Pandan/Screwpine version of red velvet cake. The bright green color startled me at first, but I guess they’re trying to put Indonesian style Pandan Chiffon Cake into this dessert. The taste was delectable and had that lovely familiar Pandan fragrant. Quite good despite of the excessive food coloring.
Fried Banana and Jackfruit Spring Rolls with Popiah Skin and Vanilla Ice Cream (IDR 55.000): The spring roll skin was a turn off for me, a bit odd for a fried banana dessert. Altough I should give credit to the creativity on mixing the Jackfruit in the filling.
Es Kacang (IDR 42.000): Red bean in Coconut milk, Malacca palm sugar and Vanilla ice cream.The last and my Least favorite of all, the red bean that supposed to be the hero of this dish was sour which means that it has gone bad. But at the end they took it away without charging us, which is a sign of an excelent service. Thanks Blue Jasmine. 🙂
