The Union Group, with impressive portfolio of restaurants alike, such as Union, Loewy, Cork & Screw, E&O, and Canteen, launched their new venture, Benedict, not long after Union Deli. Incredible huh? I could not help admiring their success, since I have tried each one of their establishments and always came out with a smile of satisfaction.
So, naturally, when I heard about Benedict opening in Grand Indonesia, I went there at my earliest convenience. I arrived around 7.30pm and had to put my name into the waiting list as expected. I decided to roam around the area since there were still a few groups before me. After approximately 30 minutes waiting time, my name finally got called.
Knowing their level of commitment to ambience, I noticed the same thing in this new venue of Union Group. The atmosphere created was a bit more casual and lighter compared to Loewy and Union, yet it maintained the elegance and sophistication. Furnished and embellished with woods and other natural materials, we were quickly get used to the comfort and warmth of the place.
The menu offers quite a few food categories like all day breakfast, signature eggs benedict, snacks, salads, sandwiches, some mains and asian selections. Beverages-wise, they have coffee drinks by Toby’s Estate, tea, infused water and sodas, other than juices, milkshakes and smoothies. For cocktail lover, they also have selections of cocktails to choose from.
Egg in a Jar (IDR 75,000) from all day breakfast – Presented in a jar, the egg dish features eggs, mac and cheese, shiitake mushrooms, crispy beef or pork bacon, potato foam and brioche. The potato foam was sprayed into the jar during the serving, which added my interest for the dish. But I think they did it to allow us to see the ingredients first before being sunken into the pool of potato foam. The taste combination was unique and good. It was a smart dish created by an artistic team of chef.
Foie Gras Rice (IDR 165,000) from asian – Loved the generous amount of foie gras on top of the rice. This dish, complemented with confit duck, crispy garlic, sous vide egg, and pickled shiitake mushrooms, tickled my taste bud. What a bang of flavors. Nice.
Cranergize (IDR 50,000) – a mix of cranberry, pineapple, carrot, almond
Aloevera Tonic (IDR 40,000) – a home made soda
I believe Benedict with its complete winning package would become one of the restaurant in Grand Indonesia East Mall that will be flocked with many good food and good restaurants aficionado. I applaud the efforts to bring us another splendid restaurants for us to enjoy.
