You might have heard of Javanegra Gourmet Atelier before, a private dining-Omakase style -by appointment only. After 2 years of running, this place has expanded their restaurant business into another one, just next to it. A public, more casual dining experience by the name of 212, managed by the same chef: Andrea Peresthu. A brief biography of the chef, resided for more than 15 years in Europe cities such a Spain, Belgium, Holland and Italy, Andrea Peresthu developed his cooking skill and experience in Mediterranean food especially Spanish cuisine. He founded Javanegra with 2 other gourmands: Reni Alhadad and Aphrodite Firia who elaborate with Javanegra Coffee, Gourmet Atelier and 212. Today I had the privilege to try the simpler more affordable dining experience at 212. The place has a comfy, rustic place, much more like a wine cellar with exposed bricks and wine barrel decoration.  An open kitchen gives the intimate feeling of customers and the chef relation. And it also reflected on the menu, Italian Spanish Mediterranean cuisine, mostly comes in mini/individual portion.

I should also mention that Chef Andrea was very hands on and super friendly, he went table to table to greet and serve the customers himself every chance that he’s got. With his recommendation, I tried some of his signature dishes:

3 Tapas in one plate:

Tapas Champinones al Ajillo (IDR 35.000): Spanish tapas of mushrooms sautéed with garlic, olive oil, lemon juice and seasoned with flat-leaf parsley, salt, freshly ground black pepper and chili. It’s fresh, tangy and wonderfully made.

Tapas Grilled Sweet Pimiento (IDR 45.000): Toasted Red Peppers/Paprika with the same herbs and seasonings. Lovely colored ,soft delicate and tasty Pimiento.

Tapas Sopresa del Dia (IDR 35.000): Meaning “Suprise of the day” or basically “Tapas de jour”, this one were grilled Eggplant and Zucchini slices.

Aragula with Parmigiano (IDR 105.000): Sliced pear with shredded cheese and Arugula. Sweet, salty and crunch all in one bite, really tasty and a beautiful dish.

Spaghetti ala Busara/ Vongole (IDR 95.000): Al dente Spaghetti with wine sauce and Local baby clams (Kerang Batik). Plenty of clams to chew on, a little bland for my taste but overall a very simple but passionated dish.

Gelato (IDR 25.000): Homemade Italian ice cream with strong Hazelnut flavor.

Walnut Carrot Cake (IDR 30.000): A slice of rich carrot cake with bits of Walnuts and Raisins, topped with cream cheese, yummy!

My personal view of 212 is that it’s a nice place to dine and unwind from the city’s hustle and bustle. The food was in excellent quality and the people here were very welcoming and the experience gave out a real genuine good impression. There’s many other things in the menu I haven’t got to try and I’ll save it for my next visit. Hasta que nos volvamos a ver, 212!
