I have known Toby’s Estate as one of the prominent coffee roasters in Australia during my short stay in Sydney. Founded by Toby Smith, a roaster, a barista and a coffee artisan, it has expanded globally to other neighbouring countries such as Singapore.
During one of my throw back trip to Singapore, I stayed at Studio M hotel located adjacent to Clarke Quay and Robertson Quay area. One of the things that this area was well known for is its row of brunch cafes along the river. Having tasted the coffee before, my choice for a good brunch and coffee session that day fell on Toby’s Estate. With a simple industrial interior, this coffee joint generates a sophisticated yet relaxing ambience, luring flocks of Singaporeans and expatriates living in the area.
Moroccan Baked Eggs – spiced chilli con carne (beef), with kidney bean, chorizo sausage, mushroom, espresso maple bacon and sourdough. Have to spend 15 minutes waiting for this dish, but it turns out to be worthwhile. The bacon was grilled to perfection. Got to be one drooling things for meat lovers. The chilli con carne below the bed of baked sunny side up was also tasty with a good balance. Great combo overall..loved it!
Chicken and Mango Sandwich – with cold cut cajun chicken. Since I am not a sandwich kind of person, I was not too keen on this dish. However, the overall quality of the dish was good.
Salmon Cheese and Topenade Sandwich. This one is also fine. I did not like the black olives though.
With a price range of S$15-20, I would definitely endorse Toby’s Estate as a must visit whenever you are in the area.
And finally I awarded myself a cafe latte to complete the brunch. Yum!
