When I first passed by this bistro, I was already intrigued by the unique exterior. So I decided to spend my evening there the next day. Inside I noticed they combined elements from several different places. And hello… there’s one part of the interior that brings my mind across the sea to my favorite hangout place in Sydney and it makes me reminisce the place badly. But well… they incorporate the element nicely into fine details that capture the ambience they are trying to make for the patrons. After ordering, I took the time to walk around the establishment to take pictures of the interior.
As for the menu that I ordered, I decided to mix and match the type of dishes to get a feeling of their whole menu. I would categorize their menu as Asian Fusion cuisine since they have several dishes that were partly influenced by China, Thai and Vietnam as well.
Steamed Mantao filled with soy Chicken and Mushroom (IDR 35,000)
Fried Snapper with Chopped red and green paprika (IDR 60,000)
Crispy Pork Belly with Nam Pra Prik (IDR 80,000)
Pork Belly Bao (IDR 40,000)
Garlic Spinach (IDR 35,000)
Thai Fish Cakes with Sweet Chili Sauce and Pickled Cucumber (IDR 35,000)
Garlic Baby Pak Choy (IDR 35,000)
Nutella Steamed Buns with Affogato (IDR 40,000)
The pork on both dishes tasted good but it’s a bit tough. It can be made more tender. Liked the nutella steamed buns. This Gan Bei re-creation of E&O’s nutella bun was not bad at all. If you are bored with traditional asian food, this can be an option to satisfy your modern asian food’s cravings.
However, if you are a non-smoker and would hate to be an involuntary second hand smoker, you might want to consider avoiding weekend night to visit this place due to low ceiling and kinda lack of exhaust system in place. If I’m not mistaken, they don’t have a non smoking area here.
The thing that I really like about this place is their seriousness in creating this cellar basement atmosphere for the bistro bar. For you who likes retro industrial style architecture, do yourself a favor and check it out for yourself.
