Coco Ichibanya, created by the original founder in outskirts of Nagoya, Japan on 1978, entered Indonesian market by opening its first outlet in Grand Indonesia on December 2013. For Japanese curry lover, it is a real treat since Coco Ichibanya has been known to deliver one of the best curry dish in Japan. Truthfully I was not exposed to its existence until only recently during my visit to localfest.co.id event at Grand Indonesia. After rummaging through the stalls at the event, I felt so hungry and I quickly looked for a restaurant to have my dinner at. Passing by Coco curry house, I was attracted by the display of its curry dishes in front of the restaurant and I decided to try it.
The interior was natural contemporary with wood-based furniture and fixtures decorating its interior, most commonly applied in Japanese restaurant.
We ordered two curry dishes, one side dish, and a glass of ice coffee with milk.
Croquette and Mushroom Curry with spiciness level of 2 – Loved the dish. The croquette was crispy on the outside and mushroom was tasty. For spicy lover, probably level 2 is not enough.
Omelette Beef Curry with hamburger on the side – This one is my favourite since I am an egg lover. The beef and hamburger were also tender and juicy. The curry sauce is above the usual Indonesian standard obviously.
Ice Coffee with milk – It was alright. To me drinking ice coffee with milk while eating Japanese food has a special pleasant meaning.
Conclusively, I would recommend Coco Ichibanya to any Japanese curry lovers out there. I would definitely go there again to try and savour the other curry dish that they have to offer.
