The trip that was started with a bit skepticism could turn out to be quite exciting. The trip I was refering to is my visit to the Sydney Fish Market. I initially thought that the market would be somewhat wet and smelly, like the usual seafood market that I know. It turns out that it was rather different from what I imagined it to be. Not only the market was clean and did not smell like fish, it also sold fruits, wine, bread, and other stuff. After a quick survey of the market, I saw this place called Peter’s fish market that was quite wide and eye-catching compared to the other stores. Their interior are mostly painted in white with a hint of blue like the beach and their seafood produce were stacked so neatly it makes you want to try all of them. Look at those snappers..ain’t it fresh?
I ordered Caviar Oyster (AUD 14.5/half dozen), Butter-cooked Saucer Scallop (AUD 25/ half dozen), Salmon Sashimi (AUD 10) and Battered Fish and Chips (AUD 8.5).
Even though the caviar oyster looks a bit scary, but it did prooved otherwise. The sashimi were smooth and tender. The scallop and fish and chips came last since they had to cook it first, but it wasn’t dissapointing at all. They’re all fresh and tasty.
I also bought this small bottle of rose wine from the bottle shop (australian call liquor store as bottle shop) next door and then sat outside watching all the birds and enjoying the perfect weather that day.
Later on, I found out afterwards that Peter’s Fish Market was awarded by Seafood Excellence Award and was titled the best seafood retailer of Sydney Fish Market. If you are on the lookout for great and reasonably priced place to eat seafood, I would recommend you to go to Sydney Fish Market and try out Peter’s fish for its fresh seafood products. You and your companions can bring your own rice and drinks like some people do and have a picnic-like trip enjoying the wharf scenery while eating fresh seafood. It was quite memorable.
