This eatery was not a newly opened establishment. It had been around for more than 2 years. However, it’s still packed with visitors whenever I came by.
Judging from the name and the interior, it is obvious that the concept is revolving around hummingbird. At the front area of the cafe, the outdoor fresco are built like a bird cage. The wall inside the building are fully painted with yellowish background, hummingbird’s pictures and writings. Everything from the tissue to the menus are maintaining the concept design accordingly giving it a strong brand appearance. I like the ambience of the eatery mainly due to the homy atmosphere created by the overall concept of it.
I have had my meal at this cafe numerous times and tried a lot of their menu and this review is based on my two latest visits. The menu gave quite a wide selection to choose from. From the “early riser” menu, I tried the Morning Pan Egg (IDR 35.5) – fluffy pancakes topped with melted cheese sauce, beef bacon and sunny side up and also the Pure Egg-dulgence (IDR 35.5) – scrambled egg served with grilled veggies topped with dukkah, broiled ham and hashbrowns. Brekkie Pie (IDR 29.5) – some pastry served with homemade chutney and garden salad. For a western-style breakfast enthusiast like me, the existence of this breakfast menu in Bandung is quite reviving. All dishes were cooked nice and professionally presented. Loved it! 🙂
From the appetizer, I had Escargot in Garlic Butter (IDR 32.5) served with toasted baguette. Unfortunately, like most escargot dishes in many Bandung restaurants, they are using canned snails which are definitely not the proper way to enjoy an escargot. The escargot is tough. It’s quite disappointing.
I also got a chance to try their summer special menu, which is Corn Dogs + Lemonade (IDR 28.5). At the first glance, I thought the shape’s too skinny, but when I bit it, the taste was delicious and juicy. But I still wish they made the corn batter thicker.
From the mains, I ordered:
Nana’s Homemade Corned Beef Rice (IDR 32.5) – stir fried corned beef with rice and served with condiments. The taste was quite appetizing for a regular dish like this.
Humming Fish (IDR 36.5) – pasta cooked in basil infused tomato sauce and served with fried dory fish. It’s a decent pasta. The spaghetti was cooked al dente and the taste combination of dory fish and tomato sauce is quite refreshing.
Hamburg Steak (IDR 46.5) – juicy 150gr beef patty served with vegetables and potatoes served on a hot plate. The steak was cooked just right, loved the sauce too.
I also tried some of their desserts and drinks:
Black Russian Pie (IDR 25) – This is one of my favorite and I believe it’s the favorite of many of their guests. It’s a combination of chocolate ganache, alcoholic cream and tasty crumbs, hmm… my kind of dessert.
Red Velvet Cake (IDR 25) – Like many other cafes, Hummingbird also have their own red velvet cake which is not bad at all.
Green Green Grass (IDR 15) – It’s basically a hot lemongrass tea. It’s refreshing and also one of my favorite tea here so far.
Wildberry Juice (IDR 21.5) – Fresh berry juice, ordered it coz I heard berries have a high level of antioxidant haha.. (Me and my so called self made health conciousness)
Passionate Peach (IDR 29.5) – Served in a jug, this fruity soda drink’s also quite good to quench your thirst.
To wrap up my review, I have to say I love this eatery. I left the place feeling contented and happy, thanks to the great ambience, the overall good food, and also the menu variation that it provides. I wouldn’t mind spending hours here for a meeting or to work on my projects.
