Young Dong Tofu House – Arcadia California

Author: Posh Eater

One of the places I long for, every time I visited LA is this little Korean eatery in Arcadia. Young Dong Tofu House doesn’t look much but provides fast, fresh and authentic Korean dishes that I love. Their specialty here is like the name stated: the Tofu soup/Sundubu Jjigae. This humble place has been around for years and I always find it crowded with starving people like myself. The restaurant itself isn’t very large but can fit many people, the decoration is very minimal but I believe that most of the loyal customers agree that they only care about the food the serve here.

The first thing that I like to observe when dining at a Korean restaurant is the Banchan / Korean traditional appetizers. The more kinds they serve, the more extra credit I’ll give. Here, I received a generous 6 kinds of dishes: Kongnamul – Cold boiled bean sprouts with sesame oil); Ojingeochae bokkeum -Stir-fried dried shredded squid seasoned with a mixture of chili pepper paste; Nakji bokkeum – Stir fried baby octopus in chili pepper spicy sauce;  Pajeon – Thin pancakes with scallions; Miyeok Muchim – Seaweed with sweet vinegar and salt; and last but not least, the Must have in all Korean meals: Kimchi.

Seafood Tofu Soup ($10.55): You can choose the level of spiciness from Non Spicy to Extra Spicy. I chose the Mild and it wasn’t spicy at all. But the clam, shrimp and oyster soup was extra tasty, rich and succulent.

Beef Tofu Soup ($10.55): This one has the same flavorful soup with beef as the main character. The tofu was also generous and yummy.

Chap Chae ($11.99): Stir fried glass noodle with beef, egg and mushrooms. Love how light and fulfilling the noodle tasted. It was seasoned very well.

Bulgogi ($16.99): Sweet and tangy BBQ beef with stir fried onions served on a hot plate.
