Tjap Toean – FXSudirman-Jakarta

If it wasn’t for my friend’s suggestion,I would never thought that I’d found such a nice restaurant in fX’ntertainment center. As far as I know, the mall was full of fast food restaurants and outlet stores. Tjap Toean’s look immediately ‘Wow’ed me. The Chinese style interior was already cute and eye catching, but the more I see, the more I noticed the extraordinary details that’s made this place special. For one, I love the many antiques knick knacks that they put out to display. You could tell that they’ve put a real effort to design this eatery’s eccentric style. The outside area (which is the smoking area) was accessories with colorful toy airplanes on the ceiling. The inside was all wooden typical old style Chinese restaurant, but accented with colorful painted stools and varieties of bird cages. A fun place to take a break from all the fuss in your everyday life.

I went on with ordering their signature dishes:

Merem Melek (IDR 25.500): Pomelo and Mango Salad. Refreshing sweet and sour cold salad.

A kew (IDR 10.500): Plain roti Channai. This dish wasn’t my favorite. The bread was bland and boring.

Nasi Babah (IDR 31.500): Nasi lemak with fried chicken, tempeh, egg and vegetables. The blue-ish rice was cute and interesting. The taste was really delicious. Fragrant rice, really good side dishes too.

Pa Chin Ko (IDR 24.500): Fried fish cakes/otak otak. Tasty, freshly made fish cake.Love it.

Roti Ngai (IDR 33.500): You’ve got to try this one when you come here. Toasted cheesy bread with butter and condensed milk with crunchy shredded cheese on the top. The bread was toasted perfectly, love the evenly crunchy crusts (both top and the bottom). One bite and I was hooked.
