The Holy Crab – Gunawarman Jakarta

Author: Posh Eater

If you are a seafood lover living in Jakarta, you must have heard something about the Holy Crab by now. This Louisiana style eatery specialized in spicy Cajun style crustaceans, which is very much synchronized with our own (Indonesian) taste buds.

A brief history, Cajuns are actually descendants of French Canadians who settled in South Louisiana,USA. Known for their “joie de vivre” (joy of living), Cajuns add excitement to their food they experiment with herbs, spices and ingredients to create some of the most flavorful dishes that people throughout North America (and now Jakarta) enjoy.

Beside the cooking, the thing that made the Holy Crab interesting, is also how they serve the food without the plate, or right on the table to be exact, which added more fun to the eating process. There’s only one Cajun sauce for the seafood, but you can choose from ‘Mild’, ‘Medium’, ‘Spicy’ and ‘Holy Moly’.

King Crab Leg 42 g (IDR  504.000): Alaskan crab leg with the ‘Spicy’ Cajun sauce. For me the sauce was too thick for an authentic Louisiana style.I think it’s more adapted to Asian taste buds which is smart for Indonesian customers. The king crab was good but the sauce was kind of over powering , you couldn’t taste the natural sweetness of the crab leg. About the ‘Spicy’ level, it’s still tolerable for me.

Mud Crab 64 g (IDR 288.000): Good quality of local crab with the same sauce.

Side Orders:

Sweet Corn (IDR 20.000): Really Good corn.

Sweet Potato Fries (IDR 25.000): I was expecting french fries like dish, but it’s more like sweet potato balls.

Deep Fried Chicken Wings (IDR 45.000): Strong BBQ sauce.Good dish.

Cajun Fries (IDR 25.000): Perfect crisp fries with Cajun sprinkles. Yum.

Crispy Chicken Strips (IDR 45.000): Chicken Strips with Cajun fries and Honey Mustard sauce on the side.

Deep Fried Calamari (IDR 45.000): Really good calamari.
