Symmetry – Kampong Glam Singapore

Author: Chic Eater

An unplanned visit to Symmetry one late afternoon turns out to be an unforgettable one. From outside, the building seems like any other old building around the neighbourhood. You can see the outdoor section filled with guests, for the smokers and people who love to drink coffee outside. Since the weather was rather warm at the time, I decided to sit inside. The inside was not crowded when I came around 5pm . I feel the lighting was a bit dim with just some outside light coming in mainly from the window close to the entrance, but I guess it fits the concept of bar and bistro.

The grungy interior was rich with many knick knacks on any side of the dining area, including the walls and the windows. It gave an ambience like I had not experienced before..a bit dark but also hipster. The dolls sitting by the entrance reminded me of characters from a shady animation movie “Tim Burton’s The nightmare before Christmas”.  I kinda like their creative set up.

Unique decoration at the entrance to attract visitors. With a ‘sesame street’ like sign written Symmetry Street and dolls like from The Nightmare Before Christmas, bringing about a darker and more mysterious setting to the cafe.

Sakura Flower Tea (S$8.00) – Nice tea scent and flavour.
For your information, the price in singapore is applicable to 10% svc chg and 7%GST in most cafe. Some waived the svc chg.

Spicy Pork Rib (S$17.00) – The pork ribs meat was incredibly tender and juicy. I would compare it to other good pork ribs joint I have visited before. The flavour of the sauce was balanced between sweetness and sourness.

Complimentary Grapes on Ice for patrons. Yeayy! The grapes were fresh, sweet with no seeds too!

Rice Cracker (S$12.00) – That’s the name on the bill. I forgot the complete name from the menu and it was not from their standard menu. It was some kind of fish snack dish served on a small pot and rice cracker on the side. The taste was sensational and refreshing.

Symmetry is one cafe that I would not miss if I ever visit this area again. I would try its lunch or dinner menu on a date with loved one. I can imagine how it would be an exceptional experience.
