Shirokuma – Pantai Indah Kapuk PIK Jakarta

Author: Posh Eater

Similar to the fashion trend, food/restaurant trend comes and go faster than you can say “Cronuts” in Jakarta. As many Taiwanese/Japanese ‘baobing’/’kakigori’ (shaved ice) came rushing down on dessert lovers, another new comer arrived with the name that matches the plate: Shirokuma. Located on the splendor restaurant rows in North Jakarta, the eatery attracts people just by it’s ‘kawaii’ exterior. The interior itself is simple minimalist with- of course- a hint of Japanese touch.

To tell you the truth, I was kind of dissapointed after tasting their -much hyped-soft ice cream because it doesn’t live up to my expectation, especially after I’ve read many great reviews about Shirokuma. I’m not an expert on ice cream making but their soft ice cream (in my opinion) was bad…it’s too thin, not creamy, almost watery and.. how do I put it…it’s like the ratio of the milk/cream and the other ingredients wasn’t right. It’s just sad. Another thing that I should point out is that there aren’t any other food available in this cafe but hotdogs, fries and popcorn chicken. The food was actually good but to be honest, I don’t think I’ll be coming back for the dessert.

Popcorn Chicken (IDR 29.000): Very good fried chicken.

Japadog Okonomi (IDR 42.000): Hotdog with Okonomiyaki sauce, bonito flakes, Japanese mayonnaise and nori. Love the rich meaty sausage, generous size of hotdog, the delicious black bun and the sauce too. It’s perfect!

Deep Fried Oreos (IDR 29.000): Dusted with icing sugar and served with soft ice cream. The fried oreo look a little overcooked but tasted okay.

Chocolate Parfait (IDR 37.000): Soft ice cream layered with cornflakes, mochi, shiratama balls, pocky and crushed oreo. Beside the terrible ice cream, the shiratama balls and mochi was tasteless but was saved by the crushed oreo.

Shiratama Parfait (IDR 35.000): Soft ice cream layered with cornflakes, mochi, shiratama balls, chunky red beans and matcha jelly. This one was just plain tasteless especially for a ‘sweet tooth’ like myself.

Hi there! Thank you so much for your honest review. We’ve changed our Soft Cream recipe since you last visited. Would really appreciate for you to try and give us some feedback/constructive criticism. We formulate our recipe from scratch and it’s not a premix, so we’re still tweaking to improve it.

Thank you!

Hi Shirokuma. Thanks for checking out website. We’re excited to hear about your continuous effort for improvement. We’ll definitely revisit Shirokuma the next time we’re in the area.
