Prodigal Roasters – Ang Mo Kio, Singapore

Author: Chic Eater

As a coffee enthusiast, one must not miss checking out the newest coffee shop in town. And that’s exactly what I did during my latest Singapore visit.  Learning about the existence of a new coffee shop in reasonable vicinity to the hotel I stayed, Sofitel So Hotel, I decided to pay it a visit.

Opened about a month ago, Prodigal Roasters occupies a unit on the ground floor of a block 625 building on Ang Mo Kio Ave 9 within approximately 12 minutes walk from Yio Chu Kang MRT station, according to google map. I chose to use taxi as time was not on my side that day. And I was glad I did, as it cut down a lot of time finding the place.

The white and maple-colored interior and furnishings was really close to my heart.  I quickly fall in love with the clean look and the vibe of its Japanese minimalist style. Due to limited space, the coffee shop could only provide three tables inside so seating capacity would be a bit of a concern here.

With self-roasted beans from Panama, the Cappuccino (S$ 4.00), Flat White (S$ 4.00) and  Ice Mocha (S$ 5.50) gave a note that were more on the fruity side. Although I felt that its nutty side came out pretty decent as well yielding a good balance of taste.

Owned and run by a passionate coffee lover, Glen Ho, who independently roasted the beans on a small-capacity roaster, the coffee shop showed prospect of growth.  With other blends coming up in the near future as Glen told us, I look forward to drop by again to just have a good cuppa brewed with new blends from his roastery.

The dessert of choice for our coffee time was Miso Cheese Tart (S$ 4.50).  As it was truly yummy, we ordered an additional slice.  The other two recommended desserts were Rocky Road Tart and PBMQ (Portobello Mushroom Cheese Quiche), both priced at S$ 4.50 as well.

As I left the coffee shop, I bid farewell to Glen and congratulated him on a job well done. I could not help feeling that it might be another coffee excursion that I truly enjoy because of its balance of good ambience, great coffee and desserts, as well as friendly faces behind the bar.
