I rarely go to Menteng area,and when I do, I look for the interesting eateries to go to. This time, I stopped by Maple and Oak, a supposedly happening breakfast and brunch place in De Ritz Building. If you like to visit my blogs, you might have read about the other restaurant that’s located in the same building “Por Que No”. While the Spanish restaurant nestled on the top floor, Maple and Oak is right on the Lobby floor so it’s easier to find.
As Jakarta residents has just recently been hyped up to the idea of Western/healthy breakfast/brunch, more and more restaurants added more menus to their early bird meals. Maple and Oak obviously specialized in those, with traditional dishes such as Hot Cakes (IDR 68.000),Egg Benedict (IDR 73.000) and also lunch menus like M&O Cheese Burger (IDR 88.000) and Grilled Shortribs (IDR 130.000). Their take on the interior is cozy and calming, the kind of place you’ll want to linger in for hours.
Let’s start eating:
Gravy Fries (IDR 48.000): Fries, truffle oil, homemade gravy, with cheese fondue. Not exactly your first choice healthy brunch dish, but I can’t resist on fries. Especially the crispy shoe string ones with delicious gravy, I just wish the use some other higher quality cheese for this.
Pitaya Bowl (IDR 68.000): Dragon fruit and Banana smoothies, apple juice, homemade granola, honeycomb, banana and berries. Pretty okay smoothies, plenty fruit toppings, in need of more granola cause I can’t really taste it amid all the toppings.
Coffee Butter Steak and Egg (IDR 138.000): Homemade coffee butter, seared Angus Sirloin steak, sauteed mushrooms, 65 C Sous Vide egg, sauteed spinach, Pomme puree and Basil Oil. Nicely cooked beef strip, perfectly executed poached egg, velvety delicious pomme puree.
Big Breakfast (IDR 98.000): Toasted sourdough, beef bacon, breakfast sausages, sauteed spinach, cherry tomatoes, sauteed mushrooms, hash brown and scramble egg. The sourdough was a bit oily, overall it was just average tasting.
Chocolate Hazelnut Toast (IDR 68.000): Butter brioche, homemade chocolate hazelnut spread, bruleed banana, Feulletine (crispy Praline flakes), soft serve ice cream, chocolate sauce, berries and chopped Almond praline. The only thing I’m not so into was the ice cream, they can do better.
There’s nothing better than a great brunch to kick off your busy day, Maple and Oak provided lavish menus that’s also relatively affordable, with pretty good taste.
