Jjigae House – Muara Karang Jakarta

Author: Posh Eater

After a few failed attempts to visit Jjigae House, finally I managed to go there today. I’ve heard of how limited the parking space is there, so I came early. Too early as a matter a fact..that I had to wait another 30 min until it opens. Well, the silver lining was that I’ve got good parking spot and table right away, so I didn’t mind waiting at all. Jjigae House was exuberant with bright green wall adorn with familiar Korean words, the rest of the place was nothing to write home about. Except that each table has its own cooking station for the soup pot. As you might have heard, this restaurant has generated great reviews, but I wasn’t going to get ahead of myself before I personally try their food.

All authentic Korean eatery tradition provides you with free Banchan /side dishes and Jjigae House is no exception. Although all I’ve got were two kinds: Kongjaban (Sweet and salty black soy bean) and Kimchi. The taste and quality was acceptable.

Chijeu Buldak (IDR 28.000): Korean spicy fried chicken with cheese topping. This wasn’t my favorite, the chicken was too oily and just wasn’t pleasantly executed.

Beef Jjigae for Two People (IDR 92.000): Big pot of beef broth stew with vegetables, Gochujang (Korean chili paste), prime beef slices, beef sausage, Tteok rice cake, Egg, Shimeji mushrooms and additional Spam (IDR 38.000), Cabbage (IDR 14.000) and Ramen (IDR 22.000). The beef soup was savory with a touch of sweetness and spiciness, very good firm textured ramen. The spam was also delicious, worked well with the soup. And may I say, I tasted lots of MSG too for I was so thirsty after the meal. Overall a pretty good noodle dish, fun for the whole gang too.

Watermelon Mocktail (IDR 76.000): Gimmicky dessert. The watermelon frozen balls were icy and mushy, wasn’t what I was expecting. The watermelon-soda soup was just okay, but still pretty refreshing after a hot and spicy meal.

My verdict for Jjigae House is Good, stick with what they do best-the Jjigae. And if you want a little bit more kick, ask for their Indonesian style ‘sambal’. It always hits the right spot. 😊
