I heard about El Kabron from a work acquiantance who just visited Bali late last year. It is located at Pecatu, right on the cliff. The driving distance from Seminyak or NusaDua is quite substantial, however it did not get the better of my culinary curiosity for interesting venues. Therefore, I decided to spend my sunset early dinner there.
After a long and winding drive to reach the place, I finally got there. You better prepare your GPS system or use Google directions to help you through the few unmarked turns on the way. From outside, I personally felt a bit discouraged and somewhat doubtful it would be a worthwhile adventure. However, when I reached the inside, I was relieved. It was quite captivating.
For sunset viewing, they divided the seating space into three areas. The cliffside laid back seatings with pools was offered at a minimum of IDR 300,000 per person. You can also dive into the pool with a view of cliffside sunset..quite tempting. Since it was full at the time, we were seated at the outdoor seating just behind the cliffside area with a minimum spending of IDR 100,000 per person. It still got a clear view of the sunset and everything else except the pool of course, but I think it was a better deal for us. Or you can also sit at the dining area inside.
El Kabron’s kitchen are graced with a spanish head chef, Chef Marc Torices Guardia, leading the team of chefs to provide Spanish authentic dishes for Bali traveller. The cliff club menu and the dining menu are not the same. The cliff club menu offers paella and selections of tapas and desserts, while dining menu has a complete three-course meal menu with a pricier tags.
We ordered several tapas, a dessert .. and san miguel beers to complete the experience.
Pinchos de Ternera (IDR 65,000)- Mediterranean herbs-marinated grill Australian beef sticks. The beef was tender and seasoned well, not bad at all. However it’s still just satay with better ingredients and cooking technique to me. No hard feelings chef I would select other tapas if I could.
Surtido de Ahumados (IDR 85,000) – Smoked cold fish selection, salmon, gindara and marlin, served with bread and herbs marinated butter. Now this one is exceptional. The raw fish meats served are fresh and when combined with the butter, it became divine.
Crema Catalana (IDR 50,000) – Smoothy and lightly version of vanilla & cinnamon traditional caramelized catalan cream. It was similar to creme brulee in terms of texture and taste.
El Kabron is basically another beach or cliff club besides Rock Bar, Kudeta, and Potato Head, with a more intimate and private atmosphere. I like it here because the place emanate serenity and the magnificence of cliffside scenery. What a great and fulfilling experience.
