Cafe Batu Jimbar – Bali

Author: Posh Eater

If you are a frequent Bali traveler, Cafe Batu Jimbar might not be a stranger to you. Opened sinced 1991, this cafe has been a local’s and tourists’ -place to go- for more than a decade. To tell you the truth, this is my very first time coming here, so I could give you nothing but my first impression of this eatery. I came here on a Sunday noon and there were like a farmer market happening in front of the restaurant so it’s easy to spot. Even if the weather was super sunny and hot, the outdoor seatinga area was packed mostly with foreigners with their families. Being a Jakartarian with no tolerance of hot air what so ever, naturally I chose the inside seating with ceiling fans for cooling. I looked over at the international and local menu and there were enough to chose from, since it covered Indonesian to Italian cuisine. I think the use of home grown organic ingredients is the main thing that has made this place a favorite among its loyal customers, and the food truly speaks to itself.

Lontong Complete (IDR 69.000): Peranakan Chinese Indonesian traditional dish also known as Lontong Cap Gomeh, more precisely Javanese cuisine. Lontong is actually plain rice dumpling served with rich opor ayam (chicken in thick coconut milk), sayur lodeh (curry vegetables), sambal goreng ati (beef liver in sambal), telur pindang (hard boiled marble egg), and koya powder (mixture of soy and dried shrimp powder), sambal, and kerupuk (prawn crackers) on the side. It’s tasty, rich coconut sauce, nicely cooked lontong.

Tuna Sandwich (IDR 79.000): Chunky tuna with tomato, onion, lettuce and cheddar cheese on brown bread. Very juicy for a usualy boring sandwich. The mayo sauce was delicious, the tuna chunks was succulant, it’s a party in my mouth.

Carrot Pineapple Cake (IDR 35.000): Carrot cake with chunks of walnuts and pineapple. Yummy!
