It was late and my friends and I decided to go to Bubur Kwang Tung for a supper. The place was crowded, but we got a table immediately, on the second floor. For an old eatery in downtown Jakarta, the restaurant looked modestly clean. The walls were decorated with pictures of local celebrities, showing how well known this place is. Since 2003, Bubur Kwang Tung has served it’s customers non stop. They open for 24 hours, everyday of the week, even on holidays, which was remarkable.
Bubur Ayam (IDR 40.000): Chicken Porridge
Bubur Daging Kerapu (IDR 45.000): Grouper fish Porridge.
Bubur Udang (IDR 40.000): Prawn Porridge.
All of the Porridge was delicious, wonderfully cooked, perfect texture (not too watery, not too thick). The fragrant of all three were surprisingly similar, but they’re really fantastic and not too salty.
Tahu Lada Garam (IDR 25.000): Fried tofu bits with salt, garlic and chili paddies. Perfect to be eaten with the hot porridge.
Ayam Putih (half chicken) (IDR 80.000): I think the steamed chicken was just okay, but it wasn’t all that good.
Telur Pithan (IDR 12.000): Century eggs/Salted duck eggs.
Telur Asin (IDR 7.500): Salted eggs.
Cakoe (IDR 3000): Chinese style long, golden-brown, deep fried strip of salty dough. A great companion for the porridge.
Sapi Lada Hitam (IDR 60.000): Delicious hot black pepper beef.
Comeo Hongkong (IDR 50.000): Baby Green Kale with garlic.
