Banyan Tree – Ungasan Bali

Author: Sassy Eater.

Two words about my stay in Banyan Tree, Bali. I’m captivated!! And you will be too!

Our Banyan Tree stay was a lovely surprise from hubby. When he told me that we were going to Bali for a getaway and he would not tell me where we’d be staying, it made me jump for joy, literally.

When we reached Bali and the driver asked hubby what area we’re heading to and when he uttered the word “Ungasan”, I still had no idea where it was.

Later that I found out that Ungasan is an untouched area, characterized by white-sand beaches and clifftop views. And Banyan Tree itself, was an utterly beautiful resort, spread over 25 acres, filled with 73 well-appointed villas with private pool. The resort’s central area houses all the amenities, like a sumptuous spa, four world-class restaurants and lounges and a beach club worthy of attention. There were two common pools, and of course the beach is down the cliff.

We were welcomed with a traditional ceremony at the entrance, and while we’re sipping our refreshing welcome drink, a cool ocean breeze filled the palatial lobby, and the view of the gardens and flourishing frangipanis was amazing.

A buggy with a very courteous driver drove us to our luxurious one bedroom Ocean View Pool Villa. Again, we’re welcomed with a calming and relaxing “scent of the day” (there’s a daily supply of incense and oil burner which guests could choose) and a soft soothing music from the cd player in the living room. Excellent touch ! lovestruck

I instantly fell in love with our 403-square metre villa. Hubby made the right choice for a total relaxing holiday with ultimate privacy.

The dark wood furnishings and eclectic Balinese ornaments set a polished tone all over the generous sized living-dining room and spacious bedroom. Glass sliding doors offered outdoor access from every main room of the villa, and facilitated natural soft lights outspreading all over the villa.

The polished cream marble with splashes of black, giving off a cool, relaxing disposition that only luxurious marble can do. It’s used throughout the entire villa covering the floors, the living room décor, guest toilet, and main bathroom. Even the oversized sunken bathtub is set in a black marble stone casing.

The bathroom was enormous, with large bathtub, two large dressers, his’ and her’s sinks, separate lavatory closet and shower cubicle. The glass windows offered views out to the manicured gardens. Glass sliding doors and heavy golden drapes could be closed to separate the bathroom from the master bedroom that laid opposite to each other.

The bedroom was spacious and very comfortable with polished wooden floorboards, a modern day-bed, a flat screen TV and a king bed which the friendly housekeeping staff always made promptly every morning once we left for breakfast and came back every evening leaving us one of their unique daily gifts on the pillow. Another excellent touch lovestruckHowever, what I loved the most was the fact that we could step into our 10-metre private infinity pool straight from our bedroom.

We basked in our first sunrise at Banyan Tree  by immersing ourselves in an outdoor jetpool attached to the pool. The sunrise’s reflection was captivated flawlessly on our pool surface.

Banyan Tree Ungasan Private Pool

Our garden area boasting a huge Balinese-round day bed, where we could rest and take a nap accompanied by the breezing sound of the ocean. There were one table and two chairs, where occasionally we had our meal brought from outside, such as Bagul and Sate Bawah Pohon/Sate Penyu Lapangan Trisakti. Can you imagine how we savoured every bite of our Bali local delicacies in the heavenly comfort of our villa ?

The two sun beds provided were my hubby’s favourite lingering place to do his suntanning. And the pool was flanked by a sheer cliff-drop peppered by thick foliage, enough to ensure ultimate privacy from the resort’s private beach below without taking away the sprawling ocean view.

Our buffet breakfast at Bambu restaurant was fantastic. There were options for everyone, with Indonesian and Asian stations, plenty of freshly baked breads and pastries, cereals, juices, including cooked-to-order eggs, waffles and pancakes.

An exquisite view was the other thing that we acquired when we had breakfast at Bambu restaurant. The expansive infinity pool provided a mesmerising view overlooking the Indian Ocean.

One afternoon, we had a not too exceptional high tea but was soon forgotten when we soaked in the dramatic ocean view at Ju-Ma-Na restaurant. This Moroccan-inspired restaurant and bar that is located on the cliff hill, boasting all white marble and leather, with clean, modern lines and a central display kitchen.

We booked for a 2-hour evening spa that truly rejuvenated us. Our therapist were very professional, and our treatment room was fabulous.

Since the resort was quite large, we always needed a buggy to travel around the resort, which was always readily available. Every staff that we met was attentive, friendly, courteous, and willing to do everything in their power to please us and make the best experience for us.

It’s definitely understandable to never leave the resort on your Balinese holiday just like we did. If you decide to stay at the Banyan Tree Ungasan, this is a place where your mind and body are in peace and harmony, where you enjoy every second of your life. The first-rate service and the eco-friendly luxury make the experience exceptional. We’re looking forward to having many more stay at this resort in the future.
