Bangbang Espresso Bar and Cafe – Surry Hills Sydney

Author: Chic Eater

It was a lazy Sunday afternoon and we were looking for something to eat. My fond for brunch brought me to this small cafe at Surry Hills, a suburb of Sydney. I was initially attracted to this cafe because it’s owned by a former Ministry of Sound DJ. It also has a headphone illustration across its wall and ceiling. You know.. as a former DJ myself, it kinda tickle my curiosity. At the time of our visit, they were serving brunch as well as lunch menus.

We decided to order a dish from the brunch list and some from the lunch menus.

Bang Bang Breakfast Stack: a crispy potato rosti topped with wilted spinach, 2 poached eggs, crispy pancetta and hollandaise sauce (AUD 16.90). The eggs were perfectly cooked, and the combination of all the elements in the diah made it great to eat.

Braised Wagyu Brisket with red cabbage slaw, pickled gherkins, roast carrot, radishes, watercress, and english mustard on toasted rye (AUD 12.50). A definite healthy choice, however it was a bit disappointing on the taste side. The mix of the elements did not give a cohesive and nice blend of taste, instead it was rather awful for me. It was not a great complement to the wagyu brisket.

Cheesy Cheesy Bang Bang Burger: wagyu beef patty topped with 3 cheeses, rocket, sliced gherkins, dijon mustard, tomato relish and shoestring fries (AUD 15.90). This came highly recommended by the server, and it was not bad at all, not like the previous dish. The wagyu became the main thing with the garnishes complementing the taste instead of overwhelming it.

The drinks we ordered are as follows:

Regular Latte (AUD 3.30). A nice coffee blend.

Loose Leaf Chai (AUD 4.90). If you don’t like milky stuff, it’s not for you. But it was by itself a nice chai drink.

Blackcurrant and Acai Berry (AUD 4.90). The taste of the blackcurrant is a bit candy or syrup like, not on the refreshing end. But I kinda like it, reminds me of some candy that I’ve had before. However, for you health-conscious bunchs, the mix of these two fruits might interest you as it should give you high level of free radicals for your body.
