Office Park Thamrin City got a newcomer in the food and beverage hospitality industry, Avec Moi, which is from French words meaning ‘with me’ in English. It has a quite intimate meaning I would say, and it shows from the ambience and interior of the venue. The unit that launched in last December is just three to four units to the right of Tanamera Coffee and it is located closest to the entrance gate.
Avec Moi with its rabbit mascot attracts many from the female gender. Well if not in general, at least I am since I have a personal favorite on anything rabbit-ty. To me, the logo itself emitted the aura of chicness and intimacy, two things that I found relevant to a French restaurant. Upon entering the venue, I notice the place was quite narrow with more space towards the back however the dining table was still layout nicely to promote comfort and allow privacy between the guests.
I came at 9 in the evening just before their kitchen was closed, so the second floor was naturally closed before I finished my dinner. I felt a bit bummed at the time. Fortunately, it was completely saved by my enjoyment of the meal which reviews can be read below. Later upon completion of the dinner, the Head Chef Romano came by to the table for a social chit chat asking how was the meal and so on. He was friendly and nice to talk to. Chef Romano is from Singapore and has been pursuing his fine dining cooking passion there for 10 years, working for some time at Gunther, a very upscale fine dining restaurant in the city of lion. He came to Jakarta with his wife and poured their passion and knowledge into the restaurants. Avec Moi is the brainchild of Chef Romano.
Since I got to know the chef, I took advantage of asking if I can take pictures of the second floor dining area and he was kind enough to have the section reopened by turning on all the lights and took off all the seat covers. Yeayy, thank you Chef!
The unique rabbit ears chairs and some wall paintings on the second floor brought the stylish french theme even stronger.
The menu selections here were dominated with casual French cuisine that you usually found in Parisian Bistro. We decided to order one appetizer and 2 mains:
French Escargots (IDR 65,000) – I love the taste and texture of the escargots. Good and uncommon presentation as well putting the escargots on vegetable leaves.
Boeuf Bourguignon (IDR 140,000) – It was cooked just right with a nice flavor balance.
Seabass Grenobloise (IDR 98,000) – The seabass was moist and tender. It was also cooked and seasoned well to bring out the taste of the dish.
Chef Romano recommended one of his signature desserts, which is the Orange Soufflé and strongly insisted that I tried it. I love Soufflé and I only found a few restaurants in Indonesia that serve the soufflé that met my standard. And I am delighted to share that his Souffle convincingly nailed it, giving a balanced texture and taste.
And the beverage of my choice that night was Bintang Beer and a frozen Mojito Tea
The experience at Avec Moi early this year still lingers in my mind and I crave for another visit. That tells me something about this particular dining spot. A triumphant effort of the owner ‘slash’ head chef of the establishment.
