Alto Restaurant – Four Seasons Hotel Jakarta

When was the last time you had a romantic dinner in the city? Romantic in the sense of candlelight, fresh flowers, wine, and all that jazz. Alto at the newly opened Four Seasons Hotel is a fine dining Italian restaurant with lots to offer. Their wine selection is over the top, the decor is on the old Italian side. Red walls, dim lights, all around romance in the air which screams Amore everywhere you look. The menu here is authentic and the food is one of  the main reasons you will keep returning. That is if the perfectly poised and attentive servers don’t win you over first.

I started off with Lumache Gratinate (IDR 185.000): Garlic-Parsley Gratinated Escargot, garden bouquet, and crispy bread chips. The snails were tender, deep in flavor, fragrantly prepared. So delicious.

Spaghetti All’ Aragosta (IDR 365.000): Pasta with Lobster and spicy tomato sauce. I asked to change the pasta to penne. This pasta is as simple and as delicious as it can get. The thick lumpy tomato sauce was bold, the penne was al dente, and the lobster was extra generous in portion.

Stracceti Al Porcini (IDR 225.000): Homemade free formed pasta, Porcini Mushroom, Truffle Parmigiano Cream. Thin velvety pasta, rich creamy sauce with Truffle that you can really taste.

Branzino (IDR 340.000): Pan fried Mediterranean Seabass with Potato Purre, roasted vegetables and Parsley Sauce. Crispy fish in excelent quality, lightly seasoned and elegantly presented.

Gianduja (IDR 105.000): Piedmont Hazelnut Mousse, Vanilla Raspberry Cream, Caramelized Hazelnut and Gianduja Creamoso. I couldn’t help but gasp at the dessert. Geometrical, almost astronomically decorated, with all the fluffy, hard and in between elements, beautifully put together. The dish also has the sweet, sour, bitter and a little salty all in one plate. Gorgeous!

Alto is what a restaurant should be all about. Exquisite food, elegant surroundings, friendly servers. It’s here that we appreciate the ‘art’ of food and all surrounding it.
